Tough loss for U of R Rams

If you were to tell Frankie Gray a year ago that he would be the starting quarterback for the University of Regina Rams Football team this fall, he probably would’ve laughed in your face.
However, with first string quarterback Marc Mueller out with a shoulder injury and second string quarterback Dylan Hart out as well, this is the position the third string rookie found himself in Sept. 14 as his Rams took the field against the University of Calgary Dinos.
A physically demanding sport

Up to 600 individual athletes competed at this year’s University of Regina Cheerleading Competition. Fresh from the Huskie Open in Saskatoon, teams from the elementary, high school and all-star divisions participated in hopes of winning.
“People just try it out and they love it. If you are the type of person that’s a little bit competitive, want a challenge, like to advance your skills in whatever area, cheerleading is great,” said Mishayla Potts, President of the Saskatchewan Cheerleading Association (SCA), the governing body of cheerleading in the province.
Learning, making friends and sports

It's all about learning, making friends and sports when these girls get into the gym every Tuesday and Thursday night. From 5:30p.m. to 7:15pm it’s Girls in the Game time. Now in its fifth season, the program is running stronger than ever.
June Zimmer, program organizer and education professor, remembers when the whole thing got started a year and a half ago. “We launched a one-semester trial period, we had 40 spots, and we sold out immediately, and we had a wait list. Then it just grew and grew.”
Cougars undefeated and counting

The number one ranked University of Regina Cougars women’s basketball team is taking little pride in its record-breaking start to the season.
Led by a dominant fourth quarter by guard Michelle Clark, the Cougars defeated the University of Fraser Valley Cascades 78-61 on January 20th for a team record of 12 straight wins to start the season. Clark finished the game with 22 points, most coming in the fourth quarter.
The win broke the previous team record of 11 wins to start a season, which the Cougars accomplished in 2001-2002 and 2003-2004.
